WHAT WE DO
Reaching Across Borders
MULTILAW was founded in 1990 on the premise that a number of carefully selected independent law firms can work together to fulfil clients’ international needs. Today, it has over 8,000 lawyers in over 150 commercial centres throughout the world. Our mission is to help our members provide the best service possible to clients — everywhere, every day.
The purpose of Multilaw is to assist and support its member firms in the development and improvement of their practices through a variety of resources and programmes and to evolve and change in response to the needs of members, so that they, in turn, can provide the best service for their clients.
Highest Standards
Multilaw member firms are carefully chosen. To be invited to membership, a firm must not only have the highest standards of ethics and quality, it must also be able to service the full needs of the typical international business client and have a good personality fit with the member firms. It is Multilaw’s philosophy that the best professional relationships are based on the closest personal ties.
Creativity and Quality
Our members have the ability to advise the international client on a full range of needs within each of their jurisdictions. Our members pride themselves on their legal acumen and their ability to provide practical, business-minded advice to clients. They not only understand the law; they understand the realities of the marketplace. Each member firm provides the unique experience and special insight required by its clients in its jurisdiction. Clients of our members range from major multinational corporations listed on the world’s most important stock exchanges to individuals.
Collaboration and Trust
Among the programmes and activities that Multilaw sponsors are three regional conferences and an annual conference each year, Special Interest Practice Groups in selected practice areas, listservs to facilitate electronic communications among our members, regular member newsletter updates, lawyer exchange programmes, online legal bulletins and a comprehensive digital community linking our members to each other and the rest of the world. The annual Multilaw Academy is an intensive week long training course for young lawyers from around the world has also become an important event on the Multilaw calendar. More details of our Practice Groups can be accessed through Legal Specialities on the main menu.
Independence
Our Association is non-exclusive, and each member is free to call on other members for assistance as its clients’ needs and best interests dictate. Each firm is wholly independent from the other, accepting separate instructions to act, and is solely responsible for the quality of its work. With this independent status, MULTILAW members can adopt innovative approaches, reflecting the rich diversity of the cultures which make up MULTILAW. Their combined knowledge and talents provide the world-wide perspective clients need and the local service clients require.
