Recent News and Developments from Macpherson Kelley

In the annual law firm survey, conducted by The Australian newspaper (29 June 2018), M+K was Australia’s fast growing legal employer (in percentage terms). Excluding equity principals/partners, their fee earning workforce grew by over 20%. For partners/principals, they were also top 5 in highest percentage growth. Combined, this equates to a current total 172 fee earners.

The Brisbane office has grown significantly this past year, and Sydney is poised to continue M+K’s growth with three new Principals joining in July/August, two in commercial and one in private clients.

In addition, Steve Parker has been appointed as the new CEO. Steve was, for the previous 8 years, CEO of the Australian IP/Patent firm, Griffith Hack. Steve’s mandate is to lead M+K’s next growth phase. As the firm closes in on 120 years as a business, his appointment marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter for Macpherson Kelley. Damian Paul, who was the firm's managing partner/principal for the past 20 years, will step into the role of executive Chairman.

Paul Kirton, Multilaw contact partner at the firm commented “Multilaw has been a significant factor in our growth, and we are constantly thankful to it and member firms for the opportunities they provide. To support referrals in and encourage referrals out, we have appointed Jeffrey Siddle as an additional Multilaw contact partner for Macpherson Kelly. Jeff sits on the M+K Board with me, and heads up commercial litigation in our Sydney office. He has been with M+K for well over 10 will attend the upcoming AGM in Bangkok”.

Finally, the firm is proud to announce their national Workplace Relations team has been named a finalist for the Workplace Relations and Employment Team of the year in the Lawyers Weekly Australian Law Awards 2018. With a record number of submissions received this year, the firm is excited to have their hardworking Workplace Relations team acknowledged.
