Three Counsel Promotions in January 2019

We are pleased to announce that our member firm Gonzalez Calvillo have started the year with three new counsels. These promotions became effective as of January 1st, 2019 and are a result of the firm’s organic growth. They share the firm’s mindset and have been part of the team for several years now.

Their individual growth is a collective achievement, as it is through collaboration and the diversity of experience, ideas, and points of view that each of them brings to the firm, that they can continue to deliver the best legal solutions for our clients.


The strengths of their new counsels are diverse, as they are practitioners in different fields of law. Alberto Pliego specializes in Intellectual Property and Franchising and Licensing; Juan Carlos Peraza specializes in Constitutional and Administrative Litigation, Telecommunications and Broadcasting, and Information Technology; Diana Pineda specializes in Energy, Oil & Gas and Electricity, Infrastructure and Project Finance.

Alberto Pliego

Alberto has over ten years of experience as an Intellectual Property attorney at the firm, providing legal counsel to domestic and foreign companies, as well as to individuals, mainly on trademarks, copyrights, litigation, franchising, licensing and distribution. He advises chain restaurants, convenience stores, gas stations, clothing stores, advertising agencies, construction companies, telephone service companies, technology, consumer goods, among other types of industries.

Alberto holds a L.LM. in Intellectual Property Law from The John Marshall Law School, Chicago, Illinois, United States of America (2013).


Juan Carlos Peraza

For over twenty years, Juan Carlos has focused his practice on telecommunications law, constitutional litigation -amparo and constitutional controversies- and administrative law.

He has extensive experience in administrative litigation, highly specialized in telecommunications and antitrust, before of the Mexican Telecommunications Institute (IFT) and the Mexican Antitrust Commission (COFECE). Juan Carlos has as successfully represented clients before the Mexican Supreme Court of Justice in complex constitutional litigation.

Before joining the firm in 2015, he served as Director of Regulation and Litigation at Televisa Telecom (2010 to 2015); Director of Legal and Regulatory Affairs at the telecommunications company Avantel (1997 to 2008) and Litigation Manager at Industrias Unidas, S.A. of C.V. (1992 to 1997) in charge of the department of civil, labor, commercial, insolvency and criminal litigation.


Diana Pineda

Diana has over ten years of experience in energy matters, oil & gas projects, litigation and dispute resolution. For the past five years she has focused her practice in the development of oil & gas projects within Mexico, in the upstream, midstream and downstream areas.

Diana has advised in international bidding rounds for exploration and extraction of hydrocarbons, open season tender processes, dealt with complex regulatory matters, negotiated supply agreements, take-or-pay contracts and logistics services agreements. She has also advised several marketing companies of energy commodities.

Before joining the firm, she was General Counsel at Silver Fuels, Inc. and Silver Fuels, LLC, a trading firm based in Houston and Mexico City. She holds a Master of Science in Negotiation and Conflict Resolution from Columbia University in the City of New York and currently is a law professor at Universidad Iberoamericana in Mexico City.

Before focusing in oil & gas projects, she spent five years in litigation and dispute resolution of commercial, administrative and constitutional matters.
