Mexico - Improvements to the Mexican Intellectual Property System




As part of the harmonization process in light of the entry into force of the T-MEC/USMCA/ CUSMA, and considering the current digital environment, we would like to inform you about several amendments and new provisions to the Mexican legal system regarding Intellectual Property matters. Such amendments come to order, modernize, simplify and technify such system.

The Federal Law for the Protection of Industrial Property (“FLPIP”) will enter into force on November 5, 2020, abrogating the current Industrial Property Law and also new amendments to the Federal Copyright Law and the Federal Criminal Code, effective as of July 2, 2020; it is expected that the Federal Executive enacts the corresponding Regulations.
