About our firm:
Our firm has been in existence since the early 1990s and comprises 40 lawyers, making it one of the larger and longest established firms in the Hungarian market.
Our focus is on Hungary and we have a long and stable history in Budapest, and consequently know the local environment well.
Our firm was established by our senior partner, Péter Köves, in 1991 soon after it became possible to establish an independent law firm in Hungary.
During the 1990s the firm experienced dramatic growth, as part of the big international law firm, Clifford Chance.
As successor to the former Clifford Chance office in Budapest, we have extensive experience of a transitional economy and worked on most of Hungary’s ground-breaking transactions during the transformation and the development of the Hungarian economy over the last 25 years.
After the initial privatization and inward investment phase we were heavily involved in infrastructure development, restructuring and the developments in the main privatized and regulated sectors such as telecoms, energy and financial services.
Since 2009 we have been an independent firm, under the name of Lakatos, Köves and Partners. Being independent of government and municipal entities, we can take an objective view on issues relating to them.
Our clients are predominantly multinational companies, so all our lawyers are alert to the needs of non-Hungarian investors active in the local market. Much of our work comes to us by referral from international law firms.
