About Me
Between 1990 and 1999, Jan Mönikes, born in Oldenburg, worked as a parliamentary assistant various members of the German parliament, the Bundestag, directly after graduating from high school. Since 1994 he has primarily focused on issues relating to telecommunications, media and Internet. Jan Mönikes studied political science and law part-time at the University of Bonn and completed his internship in Cologne. He also worked part-time as a public law and European law tutor for the exam preparation company Hemmer in the Rhine, Main and Saar areas.
Since passing his Second State Law Examination, Jan Mönikes has practiced as an attorney in law firms in Berlin. From 1999 to 2000, he worked as “Audience Manager Government Programs” in the Berlin liaison office of IBM Deutschland. He was then appointed “Head of Government Relations” at AOL’s liaison office. At the end of 2001, he joined the Berlin office of a law firm with offices in several regions as a partner and shared offices with it until the end of 2005.
Jan Mönikes currently focuses on the areas media, commercial and telecommunications law. He predominantly advises international telecommunications and computer companies on data protection, legal and regulatory Internet and telecommunications issues, as well as in the area political communication. Jan Mönikes served as in-house legal counsel of the Versatel Group in Germany and managing director of the Initiative of European Network Operators (IEN).

Today, Jan Mönikes still advises a number of associations, including the Federal Association of German Press Officers [Bundesverband deutscher Pressesprecher (BdP)], the European Asssociation of Communication Directors (EACD) and the Federal Association of Human Resources Managers [Bundesverband der Personalmanager (BPM)].
