National regulatory framework regarding AML and effective date of the regulations

AML regulations came into effect around 2018. The regulatory framework is presented in two (2) statutes: Criminal Code and Proceeds of Crime (Money Laundering) and Terrorist Financing Act (PCMLTA).

National regulator or relevant authority for AML controls

National regulator is the Federal Government of Canada and AML controls are enforced by FINTRAC.

Customer Due Diligence

Conduct of a typical KYC identification process

KYC identification process is often contracted out to third parties that specialise in accessing and screening international reports and documents. The standards to meet are in the PCMLTA.
